What a fantastic night it was at our fete! A huge thank you to our Parents and Friends Association, community members, and especially our dedicated staff for making it such a memorable event. Your hard work and enthusiasm truly shone through.
Now, let's talk about the exciting things we have lined up as we approach the end of the year.
First, we have our final Prep Transition Day on Monday, November 18th. We are looking forward to this day and welcoming our newest students to our school community.
Next Friday, the Quilpie & District Swim Carnival is on. It's always a splash-tastic day filled with fun, friendly competition, and lots of cheering. Whether you're swimming or supporting from the sidelines, it's an event you won't want to miss. GO Pegler/Sommerfield/McManus & Durack! More information can be found further on in this newsletter.
Then in week 9, we have our End of Year Awards Ceremony. This is always a special occasion where we celebrate the achievements and hard work of our students. I can't wait to see all the proud faces and hear the applause!
We also have an exciting Eromanga Dinosaur Tour planned for Tuesday, December 3rd. This is a unique opportunity to learn about some of the incredible prehistoric creatures that once roamed our land. Please note that the permission form sent home had the incorrect date of December 2nd. I know it's going to be an educational and thrilling experience for everyone involved.
On the last day of school, we have our Nativity Play and Pool Party. It's going to be a heartwarming performance, so make sure to mark your calendars and bring your holiday spirit!
Report cards will be sent home on the last day of school, Wednesday, December 4th. We will be sending them home in both paper form and digitally, as we are moving towards just digital next year in alignment with TCSO standards.
Lastly, I want to give a big shoutout to all the students who participated in the leadership speeches last week. What a fantastic group of future leaders we have! Your passion and ideas were truly inspiring, and I am confident that our school is in good hands with you at the helm.
That's all for now. Let's make the most of these last few weeks of the school year. Remember, my door is always open if you have any questions or just want to chat. Have a wonderful day!
Until next time,
Mrs. Kara Marsh Principal

School Absences
PARENTS, Please contact the office each day when students are unable to attend school.
Please don't send a message with siblings about absences, please contact the school directly each day
Gotcha tickets are given out each week when students are seen to be following our school rules and values. Actions may include caring for each other, greeting other students, staff and parents warmly or showing respect and responsibility. Actions may also be following the words of Mary Mackillop - 'Never see a need without doing something about it'. All the Gotcha tickets a placed in the 'Gotcha box' and two names are drawn out each week, the remaining names stay in the box and are added to each week.

Prep Classroom
Our recent school fete was a huge success! Students had a fantastic time playing a variety of games. They showcased their skills by popping balloons, hitting targets, throwing wickets, and participating in many other fun activities to earn prizes. A big thank you to the student helpers who were instrumental in running the kids’ games. Their assistance in teaching and guiding others on how to play was invaluable.
In English, Prep students have been focusing on visual literacy. They have been exploring how pictures can add meaning to different texts. The students have thoroughly enjoyed acting out different scenes from the books and delving into what the characters are thinking and feeling at various moments throughout the story. This hands-on approach has made learning both fun and insightful.
We are excited to share that our students have successfully completed their HASS unit on exploring and caring for special places in Quilpie. They showed a deep appreciation for our local environment and why it is important to look after it.
Now, in our Design Technology unit, students are evaluating what makes playgrounds fun. They have begun designing and creating their own playgrounds using various construction and art materials. This hands-on project is fostering creativity and problem-solving skills.
As the school year draws to a close, I wanted to let you know that my last day of school will be the 22nd of November. I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the Preps and their parents for a fantastic year. It has been a joy and a privilege to be the 2024 Prep teacher. Thank you for all your support and for making this year so memorable.
Wishing everyone a relaxing holiday and a wonderful Christmas break.
Warm regards,
Tessa Hennessy

1-2 Classroom
Week 7 has ended, and the term has flown by. We have all had an eventful week filled with lots of activities after our extraordinary fete. Year 1-2 students have been reflecting on the fete and writing about these events. The students have demonstrated many skills and are showing their ability to be independent writers and readers, it is very rewarding to see. Extra swimming practices have been wonderful, students have been learning to perfect their dive and strengthen themselves ready for our swimming carnival next week. Students are beginning to design and show their creativity of displaying their own sustainable playground. Our small class is filled with lots of laughter and love as we begin to conclude our year and celebrate our time together. We are all looking forward to the end of year activities coming up over the next few weeks.

3-6 Classroom
Today the whole school went to the library and read to themselves or each other, being read to is incredibly important for children as it significantly enhances their language development by exposing them to new vocabulary and complex sentence structures. It also stimulates their imagination and creativity, allowing them to visualize stories and scenarios. Additionally, it fosters emotional growth by helping them understand and process different emotions through characters’ experiences. Moreover, the act of being read to strengthens the bond between the reader and the listener, creating a sense of security and closeness. This shared activity can also instill a lifelong love of reading and learning.

St Finbarr's Student Protection Contacts
It is a legislative requirement that all non-state schools have at least two nominated staff members to whom a student can report the behaviour of another staff member that the student considers inappropriate. We call these specially trained staff members School Student Protection Contacts, or SSPCs. Each SSPC has been nominated by the principal in recognition of their integrity, approachability and knowledge in the area of student protection. Whilst students are encouraged to speak up to any trusted adult in the school community, it is important that they know they can access these specific staff members at any time should they have worries, queries or concerns. You will have noticed posters throughout the school depicting our current SSPCs. The SSPCs are also published on our school website along with information about our student protection processes. In everything we do at St Finbarr's student safety is our highest priority, therefore the SSPCs at our school are key personnel in our overall safeguarding processes. Please see the poster depicting our current SSPC team.
