Welcome to our Week 4 newsletter! I hope you all are having a fantastic term so far. It's been wonderful to see the enthusiasm and dedication of our students and staff as we embark on another exciting school year.
Leadership and Badge Giving Ceremony: Thank you so much for attending our Leadership and Badge Giving Ceremony. I always feel incredibly blessed to be a part of our Finnie’s Families, especially on days like today when we come together to celebrate our beautiful students and your children.
Principal’s Absence: I will be away next week (Week 5) attending a leadership forum in Toowoomba. These forums are crucial for principals to connect with others, gain valuable insights, and engage in professional development.
PPF Working Bee: The PPF Working Bee will be held on Sunday, 2nd March from 7am, followed by a BBQ breakfast to finish. Many hands make light work, so please bring tools, garden supplies, etc.
Cross Country Date Change: The Cross-Country date has been moved to Monday in Week 9. It will now be held on Monday, 24th March at the Quilpie Golf Club.
Cross Country Training: Cross Country training starts in Week 5, next week, from Monday to Thursday. All grades are encouraged to attend. All students will need to stay on the oval until 8:30am. Students should arrive by 8:00am and no later than 8:15am to get the most out of the training. Special thanks to Miss Derry and Miss Barron for their commitment to this.
PPF Donation: Thank you to the PPF for donating $1,500 to the school to purchase sports equipment. We are very grateful for your generosity.
Ash Wednesday: Ash Wednesday will be held on 5th March at 9am at St Finbarr’s Church. Everyone is welcome to attend. Ash Wednesday is a significant day for Catholics and Christians alike, marking the beginning of Lent, a period of reflection and preparation leading up to Easter.
A Note of Gratitude: I am so grateful for each and every one of you and the support you give each other. Thank you for the time and effort you put into our school and your children, getting them to school, and ensuring their success. As William Arthur Ward said, "The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires." Let's continue to inspire our students and each other.
Until next time,
Kara Marsh

School Absences
PARENTS, Please contact the office each day when students are unable to attend school.
Please don't send a message with siblings about absences, please contact the school directly each day
Dear Parents and Guardians, What a fantastic start we’ve had to Year 2/3 2025! Our young learners have hit the ground running with enthusiasm and curiosity.
We have introduced a new approach to our maths curriculum called "Learning Through Doing." This hands-on method encourages students to actively engage with the material, fostering a deeper understanding and retention of knowledge.
This term, our English unit focuses on persuasive writing. Students are exploring the art of crafting compelling arguments, learning how to use persuasive language and techniques to make their writing more impactful. We're already seeing some impressive work as they convince their peers and teachers with well-structured and thoughtful arguments.
In preparation for the upcoming NAPLAN assessments, we are incorporating practice sessions into our routine. These sessions aim to familiarize students with the test format and help them build the skills and confidence needed to perform their best. With a supportive and encouraging environment, we're ensuring that each student feels prepared and ready for the challenge. Thank you for your continued support. Here's to a wonderful school year ahead!
Warm regards, Kate Barron Year 2/3 Classroom Teacher

Quilpie State College Rare Disease Day
Last week, our Finnie's Guardians, Hayley and Elle-Rose, along with Miss Kerri, visited Quilpie State College to present Principal McWaters with our donation for Rare Disease Day, an annual event held at the school. We are happy once again to be able to support this cause. Rare diseases affect over 300 million people worldwide, with more than 7,000 different rare diseases identified[1][2]. This is the first year of our Finnie Guardians, and we hope to organize more fundraising events to support other causes in the future.

St Ursula's College Open Day!
We are excited to welcome you to our vibrant campus for Open Day! Explore our facilities, meet our dedicated staff, and discover the unique opportunities that await you at St Ursula's College.
Take advantage of our special "Come and Try Boarding" opportunity, available before or after Open Day. Students can stay in our boarding house to experience boarding life firsthand, while parents and families can be accommodated in our vacant boarding rooms. This is a fantastic chance for everyone to tour the school and see what we have to offer.
Come and witness how we foster unity, belonging, courage, and compassion – the Ursuline way. Don't miss out!
We are also lucky enough to have a visit from St Ursula's Principal on Wednesday 19th March in the morning if you can't make the open day.

St Finbarr's Student Protection Contacts
It is a legislative requirement that all non-state schools have at least two nominated staff members to whom a student can report the behaviour of another staff member that the student considers inappropriate. We call these specially trained staff members School Student Protection Contacts, or SSPCs. Each SSPC has been nominated by the principal in recognition of their integrity, approachability and knowledge in the area of student protection. Whilst students are encouraged to speak up to any trusted adult in the school community, it is important that they know they can access these specific staff members at any time should they have worries, queries or concerns. You will have noticed posters throughout the school depicting our current SSPCs. The SSPCs are also published on our school website along with information about our student protection processes. In everything we do at St Finbarr's student safety is our highest priority, therefore the SSPCs at our school are key personnel in our overall safeguarding processes. Please see the poster depicting our current SSPC team.
