Welcome back to Term 2. It’s been a wonderful start, and there is already so much to celebrate. As always, I feel incredibly proud of our school, our amazing students, and the fantastic team that makes St Finbarr’s such a special place.
ANZAC DAY
ANZAC Day commemorations were a meaningful occasion for our school community. A heartfelt thank you to all the students who participated so respectfully in the ceremonies. Nate McFadzean read his prayer beautifully at the twilight service, and our entire school represented us wonderfully at the community ANZAC Day Service at the Hall. A special thank you to Quilpie Shire Council, particularly Lisa Hamlyn and Toni Bonsey, for their efforts in making this event so memorable each year. I always say that Quilpie’s ANZAC Days are the best, and if you haven’t experienced one yet, I highly recommend attending next year.
Cross Country
Cross Country was an incredible display of commitment and sportsmanship. Every student gave their absolute best, and we are so proud of the effort they put into each race. Congratulations to Sommerfield for their victory this year—Pegler, we know you’ll be coming back strong next time. A special mention to James Hoch, who ran at Tambo for the Charleville and District Cross Country Trials. We are thrilled to announce that he has been selected to advance to the Regional Trials in Chinchilla on 22 May as part of the Charleville and District team. Well done, James.
Under 8’s Day
Plans are underway for Under 8’s Day, which will be held in Week 4 on Thursday morning at Quilpie State College. Miss Derry and Miss Barron, alongside the Quilpie State College early years teachers, have been working to create a fantastic event for our youngest learners. Students will be dropped off at the college from 9 am, and after a fun-filled morning, we will walk back to school together. To make the day extra special, students are encouraged to dress up as a scientist. This could be a palaeontologist, volcanologist, geologist, doctor, marine biologist, botanist—the possibilities are endless. We cannot wait to see the creative costumes our students come up with. Morning tea will be provided.
Mother’s Day High Tea & Liturgy
We are also looking forward to our Mother’s Day High Tea and Liturgy, where we will celebrate and acknowledge the wonderful women in our school and the wider Quilpie community. Whether you are a mother, grandmother, aunt, or a significant figure in a child’s life, this is a special occasion to come together and reflect on the incredible impact you have.
St Finbarr’s Open Day
St Finbarr’s Open Day will be held in Week 4 on Friday morning from 9 am to 11 am, finishing with morning tea. This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our school, connect with our families and community, and welcome those who may be interested in joining our St Finbarr’s family. We are proud to provide a school environment that is calm, caring, and collaborative, with wonderful teachers, dedicated staff, and bright, happy students.
Thank you for your continued support. It has been a fantastic start to Term 2, and I look forward to all the exciting moments ahead.

Under 8's Day -15th May
This year’s theme is Science for Under 8s Day, and it’s the perfect time to explore all the amazing types of scientist jobs out there! From studying stars as an astronomer to exploring the ocean as a marine biologist, scientists do all kinds of exciting work. Some focus on animals and nature, others on space, health, or even computers and robots. The best part is there’s a science job for every kind of curiosity. If you love asking questions, solving puzzles, or discovering how things work, science could be your perfect adventure. Think about what you enjoy most—whether it’s bugs, planets, machines, or helping people—and that can help you decide what kind of scientist you might want to be when you grow up!

St Finbarr's Student Protection Contacts
It is a legislative requirement that all non-state schools have at least two nominated staff members to whom a student can report the behaviour of another staff member that the student considers inappropriate. We call these specially trained staff members School Student Protection Contacts, or SSPCs. Each SSPC has been nominated by the principal in recognition of their integrity, approachability and knowledge in the area of student protection. Whilst students are encouraged to speak up to any trusted adult in the school community, it is important that they know they can access these specific staff members at any time should they have worries, queries or concerns. You will have noticed posters throughout the school depicting our current SSPCs. The SSPCs are also published on our school website along with information about our student protection processes. In everything we do at St Finbarr's student safety is our highest priority, therefore the SSPCs at our school are key personnel in our overall safeguarding processes. Please see the poster depicting our current SSPC team.
