Principals Report

Dear parents, friends, and community,

We are already two weeks back into our school term and it has been a busy start. Although it has been so wonderful to see you all again after the holidays and to hear all  the great things the students got up to on the holidays. I absolutely adore hearing from each and every one of you!
Parent Acknowledgement
We always have a considerable number of students absent due to boarding school drop off – which I understand is unavoidable in most cases. Although this term I wanted to make mention that it didn’t go unnoticed the extra effort all families made in ensuring that their children didn’t miss too much school during week 1 with majority of families ensuring that their children were back at school on day 2. We know attendance matters and that it directly is linked to academic success, for your information we have the Attendance Matters poster in our newsletter each week. Thanks again to those families and to all families who ensure their children attend school each day, but I must impress on you how important it is that you notify the school each day if they are to be absent.
Cross Country
Congratulations to all our students who represented our school with pride and excellent behaviour. I was extremely impressed with the effort and sportsmanship everyone portrayed at the Cross Country. Thank you to Miss. Derry and Ms. Wells for leading the cross-country training during term 1 and 2. I want to also make mention to our dedicated staff and parent body who were an incredible help from helping marking the tracks to picking up and returning the marquee’s. Our school is so grateful, and we are very fortunate to have great parents!
ANZAC Day
Our school was extremely well represented at ANZAC Day this year. Each student marched with pride and embodied a sense of reverence as we  remembered the soldiers who fought and died for the freedom we have today. Thank you to our brilliant teachers, staff, and parents who all marched with us. Nate McConnell read exceptionally well at the Twilight Ceremony,  he also called for our school to turn to face the solider with pride and passion, I am very proud of him. The artwork or students produced was wonderful and the QR codes were a lovely touch. We do ANZAC Day so well in our Quilpie Shire and I thank Toni, Lisa, and their team on the QUILPIE SHIRE COUNCIL for organising all of the events.
QCPPA Conference
I will be away from Tuesday next week as I will be attending the QCPPA Conference at Mooloolaba. While I am away Mrs. Mary Rutledge will be Deputising. We are so grateful to have Mary and thank her for her willingness to come to Quilpie.
School Photo Shoot
This Monday we have a photographer coming to our school to take photos for our marketing and school website. We ask that all students dress in their correct school uniforms and have tidy hair. The photographer will be taking photographs in the morning at drop off and some parents could possibly be asked to have a photo.
Deadly Choices
Deadly Choices will be running their healthy lifestyle program this term. The team will visit on a Thursday afternoon in week 3 – week 9. Permission forms have been sent home today.
Warm regards and may God bless you
Kara Marsh

Prep Classroom

What a busy start to Term 2!

Last Wednesday, St Finbarr’s students saw ‘The Cubby’, a performance organized by Quilpie Shire Council.  It was incredible! Everyone was on the edge of their seats as we saw spins, tumbles, acrobatics and even a human pyramid. Students also participated in workshops held by the circus performers that involved jumping, spinning and twirling with equipment.

This term, students will be participating in design and digital technology lessons.  Last Friday, the preppies designed and created bridges using only 4 sheets of A3 paper and tape.  They then tested their designs to see how much weight it could hold and make changes. One bridge held 480g!

In English this term, students will be studying narratives written by Julia Donaldson and Aaron Blabey.  They will be exploring the purpose, structure and characters within the stories and making connections to their own lives.

Well done to all students for participating in cross country on Monday! It was a fantastic day and the preppies ran so well in their first athletic event!

Mrs Hennessy

St Finbarr's Student Protection Contacts

It is a legislative requirement that all non-state schools have at least two nominated staff members to whom a student can report the behaviour of another staff member that the student considers inappropriate.  We call these specially trained staff members School Student Protection Contacts, or SSPCs.  Each SSPC has been nominated by the principal in recognition of their integrity, approachability and knowledge in the area of student protection.  Whilst students are encouraged to speak up to any trusted adult in the school community, it is important that they know they can access these specific staff members at any time should they have worries, queries or concerns. You will have noticed posters throughout the school depicting our current SSPCs.  The SSPCs are also published on our school website along with information about our student protection processes.  In everything we do at St Finbarr's student safety is our highest priority, therefore the SSPCs at our school are key personnel in our overall safeguarding processes.  Please see the poster depicting our current SSPC team.
