Principals Report

Dear Parents and Friends

CHARLEVILLE PERFORMING ARTS FESTIVAL

On Friday I took Ava, Nate McC, Ella-Rose, Nate McF, Rosie, GG and 5 state school students into Charleville. The students performed very well and came home with a stack of medallions and highly commended certificates. Congratulations to all of our students we are very proud of you.

NAIDOC WEEK ACTIVITIES

I would like to thank Ruby Andrews and Brendan Andrews for their incredible aboriginal cooking classes and canvas art sessions. Ruby brings a wealth of knowledge and has been apart of our Quilpie Community for many years. She volunteered her time and our kids thoroughly enjoyed making and cooking Johnny Cakes. Brendan is a very patient and passionate artist and worked with the kids to create beautiful indigenous art canvases that we will display in the Combined Schools Art Exhibition early term 4. Thank you to Quilpie Shire Council for providing the FREE lunches and gift bags to our students over the week. I have seen a lot of the water bottles floating around and see that all families are putting them to good use!

P-2 Classroom news

It’s been a busy few weeks in our classroom! The students developed listening and questioning skills during our unit learning about Indigenous country. They were able to enjoy a lesson using their skills to yarn with Aunty Ruby who came to school to share with us about her country (Dieri). We then started work on a poetry unit and have learned about rhyme, rhythm, alliteration, rhyming couplets and presentation! Our class recited a short poem in assembly last week with great excitement. The sandpit has had a workout during class time students learning about volume/capacity, water catchments and tower building (very important)! Our class is grateful to Miss Janell for teaching everyone how to do tennis drills during sport time and look forward to showing parents and friends on the tennis court one weekend. Finally, the whole school have learned how to play Mary Had A Little Lamb on the recorder! Well done to everyone who has worked hard during music lessons so far to get this far.

St Finbarr's Student Protection Contacts

It is a legislative requirement that all non-state schools have at least two nominated staff members to whom a student can report the behaviour of another staff member that the student considers inappropriate.  We call these specially trained staff members School Student Protection Contacts, or SSPCs.  Each SSPC has been nominated by the principal in recognition of their integrity, approachability and knowledge in the area of student protection.  Whilst students are encouraged to speak up to any trusted adult in the school community, it is important that they know they can access these specific staff members at any time should they have worries, queries or concerns. You will have noticed posters throughout the school depicting our current SSPCs.  The SSPCs are also published on our school website along with information about our student protection processes.  In everything we do at St Finbarr's student safety is our highest priority, therefore the SSPCs at our school are key personnel in our overall safeguarding processes.  Please see the poster depicting our current SSPC team.
